How is a component rotated according to a drawing?
The prerequisite for a perfect turned part is a perfect manufacturing drawing. Because every mistake in the production drawing is noticed sooner or later. And as with any project, the later the error is noticed, the more expensive the effort to fix it. That is why we have created a checklist for production drawings for you, with the help of which you can avoid mistakes very early in the production process. Our manufacturing partners can calculate your prices immediately and start production of your turned parts without any questions. You can find our checklist here.
Highest perfection thanks to quality network
We have carefully selected our manufacturing partners and continuously support them in optimizing their processes by providing feedback on quality, delivery reliability and communication.
Because no matter which manufacturing company manufactures your turned parts, the quality should always be at the highest level.
You can find out how to find new CNC orders in our magazine article "Finding new CNC orders in contract manufacturing".
From the drawing to the turning part
Once you have ordered your component, work on the workpiece begins for our production partners. From your production drawing, the planning of the production process in detail results. The production must be planned in time and the corresponding material and any special tools needed must be ordered. The raw material is prepared using different cutting methods (sawing, laser cutting, torch cutting or waterjet cutting). This semi-finished product is clamped into the machine with the appropriate turning tools. If the CNC machine is equipped, it must be programmed. Then begins the production of the component, which after completion is measured by the manufacturer and shipped securely packed to PART FACTORY, including the quality protocol.
With us, your order will be checked again for different quality characteristics such as cleanliness, safe packaging, number of pieces, dimensional accuracy, before they are sent to you on the agreed delivery date. Because we want you to always receive your components as desired.
Turning
Turning is a very old manufacturing process which, together with drilling, milling and grinding, is one of the most important processes in machining technology. It is a subtractive manufacturing process with geometrically defined cutting edge, in which unnecessary material in the form of chips is removed from the workpiece. When turning, the main cutting movement is generated by the workpiece itself, as it rotates around its axis of rotation. The tool is fixed and is passed by the workpiece with a tool slide.
Turning procedure
With the introduction of modern CNC control, components can also be produced as turned parts that could otherwise only be produced on a milling machine. When turning, both the inner and outer contours of the component can be produced by turning inside and outside. The production of threads is also possible. Thanks to the high degree of automation, automatic lathes can be used to produce many components in a short time in combination with a bar machine. Accuracies of up to 0. 001 mm can be achieved when turning.
Filming processes that are offered in our constantly growing network are, for example,
- Hard turning
- Longitudinal rotation
- Plane rotation
- Transverse shearing
- Peeling
- Threading
- Contour rotation
- Multi-tooth rotation
- Taper turning and many others
Materials
Any machinable material is suitable for turning. Depending on the turning process used, iron materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminium, titanium, magnesium or copper can be used. If plastic is used for turning, the characteristics of the different plastics must be taken into account. This includes the thermal properties and the dependence of the mechanical-technological properties on the temperature and loading speed.
The right choice of material is important for the inexpensive and fast production of turned parts. We have been working as a service provider in the field of contract manufacturing for over seven years and have many years of experience when it comes to turning.
We will gladly advise you quickly and easily in processing your turned parts request.
Typical turned parts
Turned parts are mechanically machined workpieces, which are produced by means of the machining process turning. Analogously, we speak of welded parts for welding, laser parts for laser cutting or milled parts for milling.
Rotationally symmetrical components are particularly suitable for turning production. A certain tolerance of the overall run is quite common in the machining of turned parts and can be produced without much additional effort.
Turned parts are produced on lathes by a turning movement of the workpiece in conjunction with translational movements of the tools. With such turning-milling machines the complete machining of workpieces in one clamping is possible. Typical turned parts are axles, shafts, screws, spindles, wheel hubs etc. , which are used, for example, in the automotive industry, in the optical industry or in bicycle manufacturers.
Turning or milling - what's the difference?
The easily explained difference between turning and milling is that during turning the workpiece turns and the tool is fixed. During milling, the tool moves and the workpiece rests. Further information on the production of a milled part can be found here.
Whether turned part or milled part, as an individual part, prototype or series production. With us you will find the right manufacturing partner for your individual component. Start your first production request without obligation.
Pandemics, fluctuating commodity prices or EU sanctions. The reasons why bottlenecks can quickly occur in production are manifold nowadays. Always free capacities in our large production network are, however, only an advantage that we offer you when procuring turned parts from PART FACTORY.
