How is a component milled according to a drawing?
Perfect milled parts require a perfect manufacturing drawing. Because every mistake in the production drawing is noticed sooner or later. And as with any project, the later the error is noticed, the more expensive the effort to fix it. That is why we have created a checklist for production drawings for you, with the help of which you can avoid mistakes very early in the production process. Our manufacturing partners can calculate your prices immediately and start production of your milled part without any questions. You can find our checklist here.
Highest perfection thanks to quality network
We have carefully selected our manufacturing partners and continuously support them in optimizing their processes by providing feedback on quality, delivery reliability and communication. Because no matter which manufacturing company manufactures your milled parts, the quality should always be at the highest level.

We'll help you here.
From the drawing to the milled part
Once you have ordered your component, work on the workpiece begins for our production partners. From your production drawing, the planning of the production process in detail results. The production must be planned in time and the corresponding material and possibly required special tools must be ordered. The raw material is prepared using different cutting methods (sawing, laser cutting, flame cutting or waterjet cutting). This semi-finished product is clamped into the milling machine with the appropriate milling tools. Once the machine is equipped, it must be programmed. Depending on the complexity of the component, these are CNC 3-axis or 5-axis milling machines. Then begins the production of the component, which is measured by the manufacturer after completion and securely packed to the PART FACTORY including the quality protocol.
Here your order is checked again for different quality characteristics such as cleanliness, safe packaging, number of pieces, dimensional accuracy before being shipped to you on the agreed delivery date. Because we want you to always receive your components as desired.
Milling
Milling is one of the most common machining processes, is widely used and has long been established in the industry. During milling, the workpiece is firmly clamped and can be driven by the milling tool in the X, Y and Z axis. The main cutting movement during milling is caused by the rotation of the tool. Milling, like turning, is a subtractive manufacturing process, i. e. all the material that is not needed for the finished workpiece is removed from the semi-finished product.
Very complex components can be produced on 5-axis milling machines. There, in addition to the three conventional axes, two more can be approached, making a “3D milling” possible. In addition to the production of the inner and outer contours of the workpiece, the production of threads can also be realized during milling.
Milling process
Milling machines are an indispensable part of modern production. Thanks to the latest CNC technology and modern 5-axis machining centres, milling machines leave little to be desired in the shaping of the workpieces. Components with a wide variety of geometries and from almost all materials can be manufactured with high precision. Our manufacturing partners only use state-of-the-art CNC milling machines to produce your components in the highest quality.
The various milling processes are used for the production of prototypes as well as for individual or series production.
These include, for example, the
- Face milling
- Thread milling
- Profile milling
- End milling
- 3-axis milling
- 5-axis milling
- Rotary milling, and many others
Materials
Milling machines are automated machining centers that produce high precision. Accuracies up to 0. 001 mm and surface roughnesses up to an average roughness depth of Rz 1. 6 are possible. Almost every common material can be milled. In addition to the usual steel grades and aluminium, there are also plastics to choose from. Titanium, bronze, brass, precious metals and many other materials are equally suitable. Nevertheless, attention must be paid to the so-called machinability of the material. When a hard-to-machine material is used, price and delivery time as well as the achievable accuracy often suffer.
We have been working as a service provider in the field of contract manufacturing for over seven years and have many years of experience when it comes to milling. We will gladly advise you quickly and easily in processing your milled part request.
Typical milled parts
Milled parts are mechanically machined workpieces that are produced using the milling process. Analogously, one speaks of welded parts during welding, laser parts during laser cutting or turned parts during turning.

Milling or turning - what's the difference?
The easily explained difference between milling and turning is that during milling the tool moves and the workpiece is virtually at rest. When turning, on the other hand, the workpiece turns and the tool is fixed.
